Fairness of climate fund in climate change summit

UNFCCC announced that it will give $10 billion at every year until 2012 to the damaged countries of climate change at December 6, 2009 (Before the day of starting Cop-15 conference). This amount will be increased to $100 billion in 2020.20% of this fund will be given on cash. Rest of the money will be given as investment and technological assistance.

But, according to Kyoto agreement, industrial countries will give 1.4% of their total growth every year to the damaged rich countries. According to this, assistance of $1200 billion should be given. But USA and Denmark have given assistance of almost $1 billion to Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives. No more country has given any assistance yet according to Kyoto protocol.

Free trade, climate change to top India-EU summit

climate-indiaNew Delhi: India and the European Union will focus on pushing for a free trade pact and narrowing differences over climate change at their annual summit this week, a European diplomat said Wednesday.

The two sides have held seven rounds of talks since 2007, and Daniele Smadja, the EU’s ambassador to India, said the leaders must now ‘bring political momentum into the discussions.’

Among the hurdles faced by the planned pact are intellectual property rights disputes, high Indian taxes on wines and spirits from Europe, and EU concerns over child labour in India.

‘We have to get into exchange of concessions, and these are difficult and need time,’ Smadja said.
